I was smiling before I saw your bingo card!! Wendy “Joy Bingo”…. That’s your spirit, your presence, your art and creativity bringing a smile and joy to others at this dark time!
Thank you! Thank you!
I never played bunco and know nothing about it but I think in home joy bingo parties would be great… ha.
We have this open window without COVID… These squares represent the people you know each in their own open window… now is the time to reconnect in a fun light hearted way…it’s late..Joy from Wendy!!
You made my day!!!
The artist that designed this bingo card is exceptional!!!
I love this, Wendy! Especially the bingo board. And the lovely directive from Strange Pilgrims. And the question about the gift in the darkness. Thank you. xx
Thank you, sweet Kendall. That post from Strange Pilgrims? Ooof. I really took that to heart. It helped me. It generated this, which I hope will help somebody else… ❤️
I love this so much, Wendy! And I didn't catch any wonky anything because taken together, the whole vibe of the card is joy, and connection, and beauty. Have I already mentioned how much I love your watercolors? The card you sent me is in a place of pride in my office and makes me happy every time I look at it. xo
Awww, thank you so much. The vibe IS joy (wonkiness and all)—I like seeing it propped up on my shelf. I painted outside today—a little chapel. I’ll take a pic tomorrow when the light is good and show you. I’ve been obsessed with fire horses lately. I don’t know. I like the idea of this energy. I’m so glad the card makes you happy. This is how I’ve been showing my love lately, and despite all the rage and sadness I feel, the love toward MY PEOPLE is overflowing.
I adore that bingo card, and if I ever get another pet I might just name it Joybingo. Maybe it needs to become an adult version of travel bingo, with little windows you can slide across as you move through the week. Oops -- another obligation. Scratch that. No.
The gift in the darkness. The call to keep your spirit from sinking into despair. Listening to what brings joy. All yes. Take care of that gentle heart of yours, Wendy. The world needs it.
I love this essay and bingo card so much. I think about cultivating joy as one of the most important things I do—not just for the feeling of joy, but the accompanying feelings of peace, calm, hope, and confidence it seems to seed.
Thank you, dear Sara! Yes, to all of that. And it ripples out from us. It doesn’t have to be “in service to the world” by intention, but it ends up being that anyway…
Just got back from NYC and spent the day catching up on work and laundry and all the other things that needed to get done, but it’s also storming out here. Every time there was a break in the rain, I grabbed Rufus and went for a long walk. Didn’t worry about all the things the needed to get done. It was kind of great to allow the weather to dictate my schedule, and to be outside my routine. I have also felt heartbroken about all the things and I realized the unstructured walks were helpful. Gonna keep it up. I loved this, Wendy.
Making soup is the gift that keeps on giving (because then you get to eat the soup…). : ) I wish you could, too! If you come to Maui, I’ll show you all the good places!
Thank you for this feel good post! Some mornings I delay looking at Substack. I'll stop at your post this morning, and maybe catch up on news later. We all need to try harder to find joy right now.
I woke up this morning to the news about Rev. Jesse Jackson and felt such sorrow. I was thinking about how eloquent he was, how stalwart… And then I read your essay. Eloquently written! It comforted me. Like Anne of Green Gables, I think we could be kindred spirits. I love your Joy Bingo Card. Thank you for this gift.
Your note was the first I’d heard about Rev. Jackson. How sad. We needed him. I hope there are other lights blinking onto the world stage now. And I think we are kindred spirits, too. I thought it when I saw your paintings for Minneapolis. I love Anne of Green Gables (the recent series, which was gorgeous—I haven’t read the book yet, but I want to). Thank you for this beautiful, open-hearted message. ❤️

Thank you, Deborah! It was lovely to do. I hope you’re sleeping well and feeling better. ❤️

Please send pics of what you’re painting! And I honestly feel like love for our people is what’s going to get us through. ❤️
I think you’re right. ❤️

Joybingo would be such a good name! And thank you. For all of it. ❤️
Absolutely yes Wendy!! Love your 'bingo', too!
Thank you, Jeannine! ❤️

So true.

I’m so glad you’re home safely. I’m sorry for all the heartache. Walks have always been incredibly good medicine for me. Rufus knows. Hugging you. ❤️
Joy bingo is so fun!! About to add a button to your box Make Soup. Wish I could follow that with Hang With Turtles!

Oh, I just LOVE this idea!! Today, I actually made myself a Joy To Do List…we’ll see if it works?
Ooooh—please report back!

It’s hard. And so important, I think. The news is an onslaught. Take good care of you today. ❤️
